Bhai Dooj

The festival of Bhai Dooj is a symbol of the love between brother and sister. This festival is celebrated on the second of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.

According to mythology, this festival is celebrated since then Yamraj's sister Yamuna which flows as a river even today. Yamuna kept calling Yamraj then she married and went to her in-laws' house.

She used to call her brother Yamraj to her house again and again. But Yamraj could not go to Yamuna's house due to his busyness. After Diwali and than 1 day after, he reached Yamuna's house on the second of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.

Yamuna welcomed her brother Yamraj a lot. And commented on the brother, tied a thread as a protection thread and fed sweets.

Then Yamraj asked his sister to ask for a boon. Sister asked her brother to keep coming on Bhai Dooj like this every year, since then this holy festival of brother and sister is celebrated. Pray to God for the good wishes of others.
